5 Ways To Create A Positive Body Image (Don’t Let Your Mind Bully Your Body!)

If you judge yourself and feel uncomfortable in your own body, you’re not alone my friend. The majority of people struggle with accepting their bodies. We struggle with having a positive body image.

What is Body Image?

Body image is how you see your body,  the thoughts, and feelings that you have coming from your beliefs and perception. In addition, these feelings and beliefs can be positive, negative, or both, and are influenced by your environment, upbringing, and social media nowadays.

Therefore it’s important to develop a positive body image of yourself. But the good news is that you don’t need long legs, a flat tummy and flawless skin to create a positive body image. Hallelujah! It’s not about how you look like from the outside, it’s how you feel about the way you look. As always, it starts from the inside, your own feelings and thoughts about your own body. It’s the moment you accept, appreciate, and respect your body. When you do this, you’ll improve your confidence and self-esteem and this affects the level of success in your career and the quality of your relationships too.

What Does It Mean To Have a Positive Body Image?

It means that you accept your body and feel comfortable enough in it. Even though you don’t look like the supermodel girls you’re following on Instagram. Some days are better than others. Comparison is a real thing, I know from experience. Some days you feel confident and on top of the world with your looks, other days you can’t stop comparing yourself, with those same girls on Instagram – and that’s ok. In addition, having a positive body image means that you’re learning to love all your body parts, you embrace your flaws because you know deep down that no one is perfect. Not even Beyonce! Meanwhile, you know that you’re enough and choose positive vibes and self-love over anything else.

5 Things You Can Do To Create A Positive Body Image

If you’re struggling with creating a positive body image, read the 5 ways you can do to learn this. Changing your body image starts with changing the way you think and feel about yourself. As a result, if you can change how you feel on the inside, it’s likely to change how you think of yourself on the outside.

1. Learn to love and respect your body for all that it can do.

Focus on the positive things your body does every day, for instance, your legs for carrying you around, your digestive system to digest and metabolism your food, your arms to hug your loved ones. Your body is freaking amazing! It deserves more credit.

2. Try not to compare yourself to people on social media

Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok is NOT real life. Remember, it’s a highlight of someones’ life my friend. Everyone, including influencers and celebrities, is showing (off) their accomplishments and a certain lifestyle to attract more followers. They use these platforms to inspire and most times it’s not showing the challenges, the mess, or insecurities they’re dealing with. Above all, be aware of the accounts you’re following – avoid ones that say you need to change or that just focus on how you look.

3. Understand you are much more than how you look

Do things that you enjoy, that make you feel great, or that you are good at. Life is too short to be obsessed with our looks and that of others. Likewise, look at yourself as a whole person and appreciate qualities other than how you look. More importantly, life is so much bigger than that, find new hobbies, grow some skills, and find true meaning and purpose in your life.

4. Surround yourself with positive people

It’s easier to feel good about yourself and creating a positive body image when you’re around others who share the same values and who practice self-love and self-care too. That is to say, build a community of people who accept their bodies as it will encourage you to do the same.

5. Catch negative thoughts surrounding your body and replace them with positive ones

Build yourself up with positive thoughts about yourself, your weight, and your body. Moreover, the first thing is recognizing these thought patterns and break it by replacing them with positive uplifting new thoughts. Start by writing a list of your positive qualities and read it often. You’re enough my beautiful friend.

You’re Unique

Remember that your body is unique – your differences make you beautiful and give you personality. If you want to read more about creating a healthy mindset click here and if you’re struggling with anxiety then read this one tip here.
